Travel and painting has many rewards. I have met and befriended locals in my neighborhood, and in many other countries. This would not have happened if I was not painting. I learned some Spanish from children in the Canary Islands. I was taken out for meals and invited in for some home cooking. I met other painters who stopped by in Italy, France, Belgium,California and Crete. It gave me a purpose and contact with the locals. The challenges of fleeting light, inclement weather, and the myriad of distractions is rewarded by the stimulus of unfamiliar ground. These paintings were executed on site and the larger works are studio paintings from photos I took on location.
